General Education Courses Required


All students must receive a minimum grade of C or higher in required courses before acceptance in Practical Nursing (LPNS) program courses and to graduate.

Take one course from General Education Courses (GELOs) 
GELO #1: Speech Communication Credits: 3
          OR
GELO #2: Written Communication Credits: 3

AND

Total: 7 hours


Course Required for Admission (requires a minimum grade of a C or higher)

Specific Practical Nursing Program Requirements


  1. Submit copy of a current American Heart Association Basic Life Support CPR card. See Getting Started Checklist for specific CPR requirements (upon admission to the program).
  2. Submit completed Health Statement to the Health Sciences Division (upon admission to the program).
  3. Submit a two-step skin test for tuberculosis and/or current chest x-ray (upon admission to the program).
  4. Submit flu vaccination.
  5. A criminal background check will be required of each student in this program. Based on the background check, a student may be prevented from taking certain courses, accessing certain laboratory experiences, or completing the program. A non-refundable fee of $45 will be accessed for this CBC. Misdemeanor or felony convictions may prevent a graduate from acquiring a state license.
  6. Students admitted to a Health Sciences program at SCC requiring a clinical rotation at a contracted healthcare facility will submit to initial drug and alcohol testing prior to the first clinical rotation. A non-refundable fee of $35 will be accessed for the drug screen.
  7. All LPNS courses are taken in sequence. A grade of 75% (C+) or higher in all LPNS courses is necessary to progress in the program. A grade of a C or higher in general education courses is required to be admitted into the program.
  8. A laptop computer is recommended for students in this program.
