Types of Jobs Available
Polysomnographic (sleep) technologists are trained in sleep technology and relevant aspects of sleep medicine. They most commonly work in sleep disorders centers as sleep technologists, but also work in durable medical equipment settings (DME), academic research settings, and various other sleep industries. Opportunities for career growth include becoming a sleep health educator, director of a sleep disorders center, office manager of sleep medicine physicians, or cross train into neurodiagnostics.
A Polysomnographic (sleep) technologist works under the general supervision of the medical director or designee to provide comprehensive evaluation and treatment of sleep disorders. Sleep technologists perform in sleep centers and home sleep apnea testing, which includes diagnostic and therapeutic interventions. They are an integral part of comprehensive patient care and direct patient education to promote patient understanding of and compliance with all procedures and treatments. A sleep technologist is nationally credentialed and able to provide oversight of other sleep center staff.
