Biotechnology Home Page

In the biotechnology classes students will learn current and emerging technologies in the biotechnology industry and obtain hands-on lab experience. The knowledge and skills gained emphasize the crucial steps in making a biotechnology product from research and development to manufacturing and finally formulation and marketing the product. Students will have the opportunity to learn important lab techniques, experimental design, how to ensure the quality of experimental data, and use software to analyze and interpret their results.

The Biotechnology AS degree provides a unique practicum experience at a local company where students will be able to directly apply their lab technical skills and important soft skills like critical thinking, adaptability, and written and verbal communication. Students who have completed the biotechnology courses and practicum have been promoted to higher level positions within their place of employment.

When finished with the AS degree, Biotechnology graduates have the options of getting a job and/or transferring to a four year institution for further education. If students choose to transfer, all courses transfer to local four year institutions as either a degree requirement or science elective for several STEM majors.  Recent students have transferred or are planning to transfer to get a B.S. degree in Biochemistry, Plant Biology and Applied Science.
