Responsible Employee Policy - Title IX
SCC is committed to creating a safe learning environment for everyone. To this end, the College requires every Responsible Employee - your instructors included - to report incidents of sexual assault, sexual harassment, relationship violence, or stalking. If you disclose information relating to these types of incidents to any SCC employee (other than those designated as confidential resources such as advocates and counselors), they are obligated to report this information to the College’s Title IX Coordinator. Additional information regarding confidential and non-confidential reporting options at: https://www.southeast.edu/rights-and-reporting-options/

Electronic Devices
Instructors may allow the use of cell phones and personal electronic devices in the classroom or lab for instructional purposes to help meet course objectives or participation in course activities. The use of cell phones or other electronic devices for personal use during class time may not be allowed. Each instructor can identify when the use of cell phones or personal electronic devices will be allowed. Failure to follow the instructor’s directions may lead to formal disciplinary action.
Email
Students are expected to check their email regularly and are responsible for all information sent to them via their College email address. Students must recognize that certain communications may be time-sensitive, and they may be required to monitor email on a more frequent basis than determined by instructional needs.
While students have the technical ability to electronically redirect their college email to a private email account (e.g., @yahoo.com, @gmail.com, etc.) redirection is at the student’s risk, and the college is not responsible for the privacy and security practices in handling email by outside vendors that are not college contractors. Students who elect to redirect their email remain responsible for the content of any information sent to their official college email address.
Firearms/Weapons Strictly Prohibited
SCC policy prohibits the possession of firearms, weapons, or fireworks on College property or at any College-sponsored event. Effective January 1, 2007, Nebraska State Statue 28-1202 makes it unlawful to carry a concealed handgun into a meeting of the governing body of a political subdivision, or collegiate athletic event; school, school grounds, school-owned vehicle, or school-sponsored activity or athletic event. These prohibitions apply to EVERYONE (employees, students, invitees, and visitors) and are enforceable EVERYWHERE (all college property and all college-related events.) Violations of the prohibitions will result in disciplinary and/or law enforcement action.
Hazard Communication - Right to Understand
Some courses offered at Southeast Community College use hazardous chemicals as part of their curriculum. If the course you are attending requires you to use or exposes you to hazardous chemicals, your instructor will provide you with information and instruction about those chemicals. That information will include: requirements regarding personal protective equipment, methods of safe handling, use, clean up, first aid measures, and etc.

Shared Content Decorum in Real and Virtual Spaces (such as Zoom, Skype, Canvas)
While the College respects and protects a student’s right to free expression, the College also respects and protects the right of students to not be exposed to language, content, or materials that may be inciting, discriminatory, outside the acceptable bounds of civility and decency, or which create a hostile learning environment. To this end, students are expected to regulate any content they present, or that is viewable by others in a virtual classroom setting, to ensure that it is:
- Appropriate for SCC’s academic space.
- Does not disrupt the learning process.
- Does not disturb the classroom environment.
“Content,” may include, but is not limited to, the following:
- Audio presented via the student’s microphone/speakers.
- Still or moving images (e.g., posters, wall decorations, pictures, magazines, apparel, videos, etc.) presented/viewable via the student’s camera.
- Screens/images shared from the student’s device.
Students should consider SCC’s Student Code of Conduct and the College’s statement of Non- discrimination/Equal Opportunity when deciding what content to present within a real space (such as a classroom), or a virtual space associated with the College (such as a class videoconference or any class- associated virtual environment). Students should be mindful that their presented content may be viewed by others on campus or within the shared virtual space.
Adherence to these guidelines will foster an academic environment of honest inquiry, free speech, open discourse, and mutual respect.
NOTE: Please direct any questions or concerns to the instructor.
