This degree can be used for seeking immediate employment in the Human Services field. Graduates can continue their education at four-year colleges and universities in Human Services, Human Relations, Behavioral Services, or Social Work. Students can enter every semester and may be a full- or part-time student. Students may earn an Associate of Applied Science degree in Human Services, a certificate in Alcohol & Drug Counseling, or a certificate in Peer Support.

This program is located on the Lincoln Campus, though practicum placements for students are available in a variety of communities.

For Students Interested in Pursuing Alcohol & Drug (A & D) Counseling

A minimum of 300 practicum hours with a LADC counselor that include at least 10 hours in each of the 12 core competencies/functions. Hours supervised at 1:10 ratio by supervisor.

Admission Requirements

  • Application to the program
  • Specific levels of Reading, and Writing Placement Scores (ENGL0995).
  • Transcripts from high school, GED® or other colleges (if applicable)

Special Program Requirements

Students are accepted once they complete program requirements listed on the Getting Started Checklist found on the website.

1. Complete online application to the program during the designated time periods.
2. Complete Getting Started checklist (refer to program website for requirements)
3. High School or GED® transcripts
4. Submit a copy of a current American Heart Association CPR card. 
5. Submit a completed Health Statement to the Health Sciences Division (upon application to program) at healthsciences@southeast.edu. See program website.
6. A criminal background check will be required of each student by the end of the first term in this program. Based on the background check, a student may be prevented from taking certain courses, accessing certain practicum experiences, or completing the program. A non-refundable fee of $45 will be accessed for this CBC. Misdemeanor or felony convictions may prevent a graduate from acquiring a state license.
7. Students admitted to a Health Sciences program at SCC requiring a practicum rotation at a contracted healthcare facility will submit to initial drug and alcohol testing prior to the first practicum rotation. A non-refundable fee of $44 will be accessed for the drug screen.

Recommended Laptop computer system requirements (should not be older than 3 years)

    MS Surface Tablet Pro (Windows 10 Pro)

  • Ram (Memory): 4GB minimum
  • Hard Drive: Solid State hard drive preferred 128 GB or higher
  • Peripherals: Webcam, Headphones
  • Wireless: all laptops should have wireless
