General Education Requirements
All students must receive a minimum grade-point average of 2.75 in science courses and a grade-point average of 2.5 in general education requirements before enrolling in Associate Degree Nursing (NURS) core courses and to graduate. The SCC CORE - General Education Requirements (GELOs)
GELO #1: Oral Communications Credits: 3
GELO #2: Written Communications Credits: 3
GELO #3: Critical Thinking and Problem Solving Credits 8 GELO #5: Analytical, Quantitative and Scientific Reasoning Credits: 4 Course Required for Admission
ADN Program
These courses may be taken while enrolled in the ADN Program: One course from Gelo #4 is recommended: Total: 7 hours
Individuals seeking part-time plan of study need to schedule an appointment with an advisor to determine requirements. Associate Degree Nursing Core Courses
Following is a list of required courses to complete an A.A.S. degree in the ADN program Special Program Requirements
- Submit copy of a current CPR card. See Program Admission Checklist for specific CPR requirements.
- Submit completed Health Statement to the Health Sciences Division (upon admission to the program).
- Submit a two-step skin test for tuberculosis and/or current chest x-ray.
- Submit flu vaccination.
- A criminal background check will be required of each student in this program. Based on the background check, a student may be prevented from taking certain courses, accessing certain laboratory experiences, or completing the program. A non-refundable fee of $45 will be accessed for this CBC. Misdemeanor or felony convictions may prevent a graduate from acquiring a state license.
- Students admitted to a Health Sciences program at SCC requiring a clinical rotation at a contracted healthcare facility will submit to initial drug and alcohol testing prior to the first clinical rotation. A non-refundable fee of $35 will be accessed for the drug screen.
- All students must receive a grade-point average of 2.5 in the general education courses and a grade-point average of 2.75 in the science courses. Science courses include: Anatomy, Physiology, Chemistry, Microbiology, and Nutrition for Healthcare Provider. General Education courses include: oral communication, written communication, social science, and related courses required by the program.
- All NURS and HLTH courses completed with a grade of 75% (C+) or higher to progress through the program.
- A laptop computer is required for students in this program (see computer system requirements).
Computer System Requirements
Required Laptop computer system requirements (should not be older than 3 years) - Laptop models: Apple MacBook (10.12-Sierra, 10.13-High Sierra or 10.14-Mojave) or
Windows Laptops (Windows 10 pro, home version may work fine) or
MS Surface Tablet Pro (Windows 10 Pro) - Processor: Intel Core i5 or higher
- Ram (Memory): 4GB minimum
- Hard Drive: Solid State hard drive preferred 128 GB or higher
- Peripherals: Webcam, Headphones
- Wireless: all laptops should have wireless
