Accounting Associate of Arts Degree Requirements


The Associate of Arts degree is for students who plan to complete their first two years of a bachelor’s degree before transferring to a four-year institution. For more specific information based on the institution to which you want to transfer, please visit: https://www.southeast.edu/transfer-information/ 

Not all courses will be available every term or at all campuses. A course may only meet one graduation requirement. Students are encouraged to meet with their advisor and receiving institution to determine courses that will meet the requirement for the student’s field of study.

Accounting Core Credits: 7 (3 classes, including ACFS 1015)

Additional Accounting Credits: 12 - 15 (18 credits in ACCT prefix required for this degree)

Additional Business Elective Credits: 0-3 (Depending on Accounting credits completed)

Technology Credits: 3 (1 class)

Social/Behavioral Sciences Credits: 9 (3 classes)

Written Communication Credits: 6 (2 classes)

Speech Communication Credits: 3 (1 class)

Mathematics/Logic Credits: 6 - 8 (2 classes)

Natural Science (At least one course must have a lab.) Credits: 7-10 (2 classes)

Humanities Credits: 6 (2 classes)

Total minimum number of credits required: 62

Accounting & Electives


NOTE: The following courses are standard requirements for accounting majors at many, but not all, four-year schools.

Must take a minimum of six (18 credit hours) ACCT prefix classes for the Accounting AA Degree.

Schedule an appointment with an advisor to see which of these courses will apply to your major at your four-year school.

 

All Accounting Associate of Arts students are required to take ACFS 1015 Success@SCC in their first semester of the program.

Accounting Core


Total: 7 hours

And take 4-5 additional ACCT courses:


Work closely with your advisor, as not all accounting courses are offered every term.

Total: 12-15 hours

Electives


One course, if needed to meet the 62 credit hour requirement.

Total: 0-3 hours

If five ACCT electives are completed, no additional business electives are needed.

Social/Behavioral Sciences


Economics


Take both. 

It is recommended that students have a strong college level English, Math, and Accounting background before taking these ECON courses.

NOTE: UNL’s College of Business requires OFFT 2120 .

Mathematics/Logic


Total: 6-8 hours


NOTE: MATH 1150  and MATH 1200  do not fulfill the math requirement at UNL and will count as electives only.

UNL recommends students planning to major in Accounting, Economics, or Finance take MATH 1600 .

Natural Science with Lab


NOTE: Science requirements vary depending on transfer institutions and major. Some colleges/majors require that you take science courses from two different subjects. For the AA degree, only one science course must include a lab. Check with a SCC advisor, as well as an advisor for your major at your receiving institution, for recommendations.

*Students may only receive credit for either CHEM 1050  OR CHEM 1090 - General Chemistry I CHEM 1090. **Students may receive credit for only one of the following: PHYS 1150 , PHYS 1410  or PHYS 2110 .

Take two of the following, (either 2 lab classes, or 1 lab & 1 non-lab):

Humanities


Humanities requirements vary depending on your intended transfer institution and major. It is recommended you check with a SCC advisor, as well as an advisor at your receiving institution, to help you select your Humanities courses.

For the Accounting AA Degree, choose 2 courses from 2 different groups, for a total of 6 credit hours.
