Program Overview

If you like working with people and enjoy being a leader of an organization, the Long Term Care Administration (LTCA) program perfectly fits you. Our LTCA program offers multiple career pathway options, Assisted Living and Nursing Home Administration, so you can choose the best focus for your career. We developed our online program with the help of long-term care administrators to meet the education requirements for licensure as a nursing home administrator. In addition, our program exceeds the education requirements for approval as an assisted living administrator in Nebraska.

As an administrator, you are the chief executive responsible for planning, organizing, leading, and supervising the operations of a long-term care community licensed by Health and Human Services.

This online program is one of a few in the United States offering an Associate of Applied Science degree and a certificate in Long Term Care Administration. The LTCA courses are combined with business and general education classes to prepare students for the Administrator-in-Training (AIT), the National Association of Long Term Care Administrator Boards (NAB) exam for licensure, employment, or transfer to a four-year college or university.

Please note that licensure requirements vary by state. Contact the program chair or ltca@southeast.edu to discuss specific license requirements.

  • If you have not earned an associate degree or higher in any field, you should apply for the Associate of Applied Science option.
  • If you have earned an associate degree or higher in any field, you are eligible to apply for the certificate option. Courses in this certificate program meet the requirements for the core education required for NHA licensure in the state of Nebraska.

Recent SCC graduates report an average starting annual salary of $60,112.

Special Program Requirements

A criminal background check (CBC) will be required of each student before enrolling in LTCA 2080. Based on the outcome of the background check, a student may be prevented from enrolling in LTCA 2080. A non-refundable fee will be assessed for this CBC.

In addition to the CBC, information from the Adult and Child Abuse and Neglect Register/Registry and the National Sex Offender Public Registry will be obtained before enrolling in LTCA 2080. Clearance through these checks is required in order to begin this practicum course. (Because of the clearance time needed, students should inform the Program Director of their intent to enroll in LTCA 2080 at least three months prior to the start date of the practicum.)

Health screenings, including a TB test and influenza vaccination, may be required by individual practicum sites. Any cost associated with this will be the student’s expense.

A grade of “C” or higher is required for all LTCA classes to graduate from this program.
