The initial focus will be on the evolution of the US health care system and the system’s historical foundations. From there, models and concepts about the determinants of health will be introduced. These tools will provide a framework to understand and critically assess the health care delivery system and the challenges faced by the present structure. Finally, the US Government’s involvement (i.e., state and federal) and the role of health care providers will be examined in relation to health care reform and the future of the US health care system.
