Program Overview
Utility Line Worker prepares students for careers in electric utility line maintenance and repair. Designed for individuals seeking a hands-on career, the program combines technical skill development, physical work, and service in a critical infrastructure field. Students learn to install, operate, maintain, and repair electric power distribution systems-both overhead and underground-as well as residential, commercial, and industrial electrical systems. Training also includes related work such as street and outdoor lighting and substation installation.
A strong emphasis is placed on safety, including safe work practices, climbing and fall protection, and energized line procedures. Students also receive instruction in the operation of utility vehicles and equipment, including bucket trucks and digger derricks, and are prepared to meet Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) requirements through the Professional Truck Driver Training Program.
Instruction is delivered through extensive laboratory and field experiences in power systems, electrical installation and maintenance, transformer systems, electrical equipment servicing, and compliance with applicable codes and standards.
