Special Program Requirements
The Graphic Design|Media Arts program is a Monday-Thursday program with general hours of 8 a.m. - 3 p.m. and is located at the Continuing Education Center. The Graphic Design | Media Arts program accepts students once per year in the Fall (August) semester. Acceptance to the program is based on a selection process upon review of a visual awareness assessment and a portfolio submission. New students are required to participate in an orientation session prior to being fully admitted to the program in order to guarantee a seat in the program.
Students learn the technical skills and fundamental conceptual theories and techniques needed to produce compelling visual communication messages. Students will become proficient at using standard software common to the graphic design industry.
Students sketch, research, study, and make oral and written presentations and work individually and in teams simulating a real-world business environment. Students will apply design skills and knowledge using typography, illustration, photography, and other processes to create designs with second-year assignments becoming part of the student’s graduating portfolios.
Students are required to purchase a laptop for in-class and out-of-class assignments, exercises, and all course-related activities that meet program specifications prior to the first day of class. Students are also required to purchase a subscription to the Adobe Creative Cloud to access all software used within the program.
Please note: Students must earn a grade of C (2.0) or higher for GDMA classes to count towards the degree, as well as satisfying course pre-requisite(s).
